These days a lot of them are single-purpose, dedicated racers. And samples retaining scraps of their street heritage are getting rarer by the day.

A 1990 BMW 325i E30 that’s gone from grocery-getter to full-blown SEMA showpiece.

While the 440 was the cheaper option compared to the HEMI Road Runner, it was no slouch. With a big block 440, this Runner was rated at 390 bhp and bridged the gap between the HEMI and basic 383 in models. But the A19 package was much more than an engine swap. It also included upgrades to the intake system, drive line and body. For$462.80 it was a much more economical option than the much more expensive HEMI.

The origin

This car originally belonged to a client of mines wife who was the 3rdowner and had owned the car for 18 years. It took me approximately 10 of these to convince her to sell it to me. So, this is my version of an iconic, old-school sports car with a few modern twists.

The interesting fact is that even though the two Uhlenhaut Coupes were built out of the regular SLR chassis for the 1956 sports car racing season, they never saw action. This is no thanks to Mercedes pulling out from motorsports after the tragic 1955 Le Mans incident.
