So how do you improve on the most beautiful pre-war Pickup ever made? Youstart off by taking away the lady part andgiving it some attitude. And if your nameis Leroy Tulip aka The Black TulipfromEdenvale, thats just the start of the transformation. In May 2011, he heard therewas an abandoned Rod at Sportech Carsin Jozi. When he got there he saw herstanding there looking sad, with flat tyres andcovered in dust. She was begging for love and thechance to be the best she could be. Heimmediately fell in love with herand tookher home to massage some much-needed life into the old shell.

Some motorcycles whisper their history. Others wear it like a badge of honour. The Flying Limey does both. Built around a rare 1927 AJS 500 side-valve single, model K9, this machine is the kind of creation that defies neat categorisation. Some call it a rat bike, but owner-builder Eugene Watson prefers the term “original hot rod” — the sort of stripped-down, go-fast special that could easily have prowled the streets in the 1930s.

However, were slowly starting to see companies turn their attention to different makes of classic cars. One particular brand that's growing in popularity among restomodders is Ferrari.

If there was ever a car to stop you in your tracks and make you question everything you thought you knew about Aussie metal, it’s this one. Leisa and Shane Chinnock’s 1986 Ford XF Falcon, dubbed PSYCHO, is more than just a build – it’s a rebirth. What started as a humble company car Leisa bought off her employer ended up evolving into a showstopper that redefines the custom game.

Francois explains that this build was done for the following reasons. Namely, the first reason was to accept a challenge because it was said that I won’t be able to do this conversion without cutting and modifying either the body, the harness and/or the gauges. The second reason was to show the younger generation that you don't need an old car or a 4×4 vehicle to fit an LS motor into it.

The December 1969-built NASCAR homologation special was ordered in Tor-Red. It is powered by its matching numbers, a top-spec 426ci Hemi powerplant. Most sources indicate 135 of these 425hp Hemi Superbirds were built, with just over 1900 Superbirds produced in total.

Behind the engine is a column-shifted 727 TorqueFlite, matched to a Chrysler 8.75-inch diff with a 3.55 Sure Grip centre. Other Superbird options include power steering and power brakes with front discs. As well as a Max Cooling package.

The HT is both a fine show car and a hell of a race car, its also Justins first car, purchased when he was just 16 years old. Since then, it has won numerous drag racing events in Super Sedan, Super Stock and Nostalgia. It then sat on a hoist for six years before being relaunched as a no-prep severe contender.

After several months of hard work and late nights, the 56 Chevy was ready to hit the road! Since then, it has been on many road trips and attended car shows all over the country. This includes the Street Rod Nationals in Klerksdorp and even the Upington Classic Car Show. It was driven all the way to Upington without a single breakdown. And even brought home the trophy for Best Rat Rod.
