Ringbrothers Unveils The Ultimate Mustang convertible

Some builds demand a double-take, and the Ringbrothers’ latest creation is one of them. Meet CAGED — a 1964/5 Ford Mustang Convertible that’s been reimagined with more than 4,200 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, a Ford Performance Coyote V8 under the hood, and a 10-speed automatic ready to put all that power to work.

The Ringbrothers set out to walk a fine line: evolve the first-year Mustang’s lines and proportions without losing the soul of Ford’s original pony car. The result? A seamless marriage of mid-’60s design charm with the sort of performance, precision, and refinement only the 21st century can offer.

Born from an authentic ’64.5 convertible, nearly every component was reworked or built from scratch. In fact, the only stock Mustang parts left are the centre caps on the wheels. The Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis was converted back into a unibody, while the body itself was subtly widened and lengthened by an inch in both directions. Every contour was sharpened, every detail intentional — from 3D-printed accents to custom floor pans and reimagined side scoops. Even the iconic Mustang badging was redesigned to suit the new proportions.

Finished in BASF Glasurit’s Burgundy Brave, every piece of trim received a Cerakote Titanium C-105P treatment for a refined, modern edge. The front grille, set back two inches in classic ’67-’68 style, feeds air to the heart of the beast — a 5.0-litre Coyote V8 crate engine breathing through custom Ringbrothers headers and a Flowmaster exhaust. Power meets pavement through Ford’s 10R80 10-speed automatic, while handling is tightened up with Penske Racing Shocks, independent rear suspension, and Baer Brakes hauling it all back to a stop.

Rolling on one-off 18-inch EVOD Industries wheels wrapped in Continental rubber, CAGED has the stance and presence to match its performance. Inside, the craftsmanship continues with a billet-machined steering wheel by Sparc Industries, Dakota Digital gauges, and a Vintage Air climate system — all tucked into a cabin that balances modern convenience with classic Mustang cues.

Every square inch of this build was shaped with purpose, restraint, and respect for the original design. As Mike Ring put it, “Everything was cued off the Mustang’s original design, but we sharpened the lines and made it truly unique.” His brother Jim adds, “Only the expert eye will catch the subtle differences — and that’s the point.”

The Ringbrothers’ CAGED isn’t just a restomod — it’s a masterclass in how to honour an icon while making it faster, sharper, and even more captivating than it was six decades ago.
